Can’t find VaultScrub in the Share menu?

Make sure VaultScrub is installed and you are sharing one picture. Scroll down to Edit Actions and add Scrub with VaultScrub if it is listed. You can also open VaultScrub and tap Choose screenshot or photo.

Watch the quick guide

Tap How to use VaultScrub on the home screen or in Settings for a short video and step-by-step instructions. The video works without an internet connection and does not need sound.

Start in Photos

Open one screenshot in Photos and tap Share — the square with an arrow pointing up. Swipe up in the Share menu and tap Scrub with VaultScrub in the list of actions.

If you cannot find it, scroll down to Edit Actions and add Scrub with VaultScrub if it is listed. You can also open VaultScrub and tap Choose screenshot or photo.

Tap a word to hide it. Hold a word briefly, then slide along its line to hide several words. Check the whole picture, then tap Copy image or Share.

Open a picture

Tap Choose screenshot or photo, then pick one picture. Or tap Open from Files.

In Photos or another app, tap Share and choose Scrub with VaultScrub. If you cannot see it, look under Edit Actions.

Want to practise first? Tap Try an example screenshot. It uses made-up details.

Try or unlock Pro

Basic editing and exports are always free. Tap Suggestions, then Try Pro on this screenshot to use one of five free tries. Adding saved private text in Settings does not use a try. Your list is used when you open Suggestions on an eligible picture.

To buy Pro, open Settings → VaultScrub Pro in the main app. Pay once; there is no subscription. Use Restore purchases if you already bought it with this Apple Account. Open the main app after purchasing, then reopen the Share-menu editor so it can use your Pro access.

If you cannot connect to the App Store, basic editing and exports still work. A purchase waiting for approval unlocks only after Apple confirms it. You can read and delete saved private text even when Pro is locked.

Cover private details

Tap Words, then tap a word to hide it. Tap again to show that word. To hide several words or a whole line, hold your finger on a word until it is highlighted, then drag across the text. Lift your finger to hide the selected words. Tap Undo to bring back the whole selection.

For a face, number, or anything else, tap Box. Drag your finger over the area you want to hide. Tap a box to remove it.

All text opens a list of the words the app found. Tap a word in the list to hide or show it.

Made a mistake? Tap the left curved arrow to undo your last change. The right curved arrow puts it back.

Find and hide the same text

Type a name or word in Find text. Orange outlines show where it appears.

Leave All matches checked to hide it everywhere it was found. Press the blue checkmark or Done key on your keyboard to hide it.

To hide just one match, turn off All matches. Use the up and down arrows to choose the one you want. Then press the keyboard’s checkmark or Done key.

Typing alone does not hide anything. The app can only search words it can read. If it misses something, use Box to cover it.

Check Suggestions

Suggestions lists details you may want to hide, such as email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, and card numbers. It also checks for text in My private text.

Tap an item to hide it. Tap it again to show it. Hide all suggestions covers every item in the list.

Always check the rest of your picture too. The app can miss things.

Save details you often hide

On the home screen, tap the gear to open Settings, then My private text. Type one name, address line, or number and tap +.

Tap a saved item or its pencil to change it, then tap Save. Tap its trash icon to delete it. Delete my list removes the whole list.

Your list stays on this iPhone or iPad. When the app finds one of your saved items in a picture, it appears in Suggestions. You still choose whether to hide it.

Add each name or address line separately. Capital letters and extra spaces do not matter. Add different spellings as separate items. Words split across two lines in a picture may not be found.

You can save 100 items. Each can contain up to 200 letters, numbers, spaces, or symbols.

Copy or share your picture

Check that you covered everything you want to hide. Tap Copy image. Open your chat or another app, touch and hold where you type, then choose Paste if that app offers it. You can also paste on your nearby Mac or iPad when Apple’s Handoff is on and both devices use the same Apple Account.

You can also tap Share and choose an app. If the app you want is missing, try Copy image instead.

Only your edited picture is copied or shared. Your original stays the same. Copies you save or send will still exist after you close VaultScrub.

Cut off the edges

Tap Crop. Drag the corners or sides of the orange box to change its size. Drag inside the box to move it. You can also start by drawing a box around the part you want to keep.

The dark area outside the box will be cut off when you copy or share. You can adjust the box again without starting over. Reset crop brings back the full picture.

Look more closely

Put two fingers on the picture. Spread them apart to zoom in, or bring them together to zoom out. You can also tap + or −.

In Words, drag one finger to move an enlarged picture in any direction. Hold a word before dragging only when you want to hide text. In Box and Crop, slide two fingers together to move the picture. Two-finger movement also works in Words.

When the whole picture fits, dragging in Words does not move or change it. In Box and Crop, drag one finger to draw a box or adjust the crop. Zooming changes only what you see on screen. It does not change the size of the picture you copy or share.

Pictures you can open

Open one screenshot or photo at a time. The app supports PNG, JPEG, HEIC, and HEIF pictures. It cannot edit videos, moving pictures, or PDF documents.

The limit is 8 megapixels and 40 MB. If a picture is too large, crop it in Photos first and try again. The app will not make a large picture smaller without telling you.

Ask for help

Email support@vaultscrub.com. Tell us what you tried, what happened, and which iPhone or iPad you use. Include the VaultScrub version shown in Settings. Your iPhone or iPad software version can help too.

If you send a picture, cover its private details first or use the example screenshot. The app never attaches pictures or problem reports to your email automatically.
